"Opening a Maillol exhibition nowadays is no longer about demonstrating the value or introducing the public to the existence of such a fertile body of work. Such an exhibition allows us to reassess the importance of the break between Maillol's art and that which preceded it. This new reading of a work that has since become famous also reminds us of the origins of modernity, which has since led the plastic arts towards their own future.
