This catalogue was published on the occasion of the exhibition "Blue-Red-Yellow: The Palette of the Modern Primitives," held at the Galerie Dina Vierny in 2022–2023.
Curated by Marion Alluchon, a specialist in naïve painting, the exhibition offers a fresh perspective on the so-called “Modern Primitives”: Bauchant, Bombois, Douanier Rousseau, Séraphine, and Vivin. Masters of pure colour, these painters were celebrated as early as the 1930s by Wilhelm Uhde, before being further championed by Dina Vierny some years later. Resolutely modern, these brilliant colourists, admired by Le Corbusier and Picasso, continue to captivate with their boldness and singularity.
