Catalogue of the "Maillol Héritage" exhibition presented at the Dina Vierny Gallery en 2022.
Too often considered a classical sculptor, a symbol of the return to order, Maillol was, in fact, an artist always in search of the avant-garde, whose work was essential in the sculptural evolution of the 20th century. The art historian Waldemar-George even compared his role in sculpture to that of Cézanne in painting, thus identifying him as the father of modernity in this field.
His legacy, still insufficiently recognized, is brought to light in this exhibition through a series of dialogues with artists who were marked or influenced by Maillol's impact on the world of sculpture, such as Henri Laurens, Alberto Giacometti, Henry Moore, Etienne Beothy, Raymond Duchamp-Villon, Minimalist artists, Robert Couturier, and Wang Keping.
