‘Bombois loved only one woman, his own. He depicts her as opulent and carnal, sometimes as a sphinx with heavy breasts, and sometimes as a Venusian nude that he studies, adores and never tires of. His entire painting is sensuality: colours and forms, as his eloquent ‘’Nature morte au homard‘’ (Still life with a lobster) shows us, but his wife dominates the work. He depicted her in many guises because he sought diversity in the very rhythm of his sensual impulse. Bombois is not a contemplative. Unlike Séraphine, whose sensuality is mystical, Bombois remains carnal. Bombois willingly tells his story - his robust eroticism bursts forth with his laughter.’
