This book, illustrated with 65 reproductions, is both an introduction to Maillol's art and a guide to his sculptures in the gardens of the Louvre. It is written with fervour by one of the most eminent critics and art historians of the Ecole de Paris. It is a posthumous book of high spirit.

For more than half a century, Waldemar George (1893-1970) was prodigiously active, editing art reviews, publishing numerous art books and taking an ever enthusiastic and passionate part in French and international artistic life.

Waldemar George was a man of vast culture, discerning taste, keen intelligence and great generosity. Nothing human was foreign to him. He knew at close quarters the greatest artists of his time. He loved Maillol and his sculpture, and in his last book he succeeded in conveying to us his admiration for Maillol's art."
